The short version
- 01Compare another device on the same Wi-Fi network.
- 02Restart Echo by unplugging power for 30 seconds, then reconnecting.
- 03Move Echo closer to the router and away from interference for a comparison.
- 04Check the current Wi-Fi password and compare another available band if supported.
- 05Update a speaker's network through the Alexa app, or a screen device through its settings.
- 06Give broader network failures to the provider and use the model's reset route only if earlier checks fail.

Compare Echo with another device on this network
If the other device also fails, investigate the router or internet service. If it works, check Echo's password, position and Wi-Fi settings. The same route covers repeated dropouts as well as failure to reconnect.
Applies to: Amazon Echo Wi-Fi speakers and Echo screen devices. Menu steps differ by device and Alexa version.
Find the matching check
Use the observed result to choose a branch, then retry before proceeding.
Several devices are offline
Retain the same-network comparison before changing Echo.
Check the networkOnly Echo cannot reconnect
Check password and a closer position.
Check the Echo connectionThe router or password recently changed
Update the speaker's saved Wi-Fi through the Alexa app.
Update speaker Wi-FiThe Echo has a screen
Use its on-device Network settings.
Use screen-device settingsLet the other-device result set the direction
Amazon compares another device to distinguish an Echo issue from a wider network failure. If both fail, restart the router and unplug Echo for 30 seconds. Persistent failures across devices need the provider; our recommendation is to retain the result.
Compare placement and an available network band
Amazon puts Echo within about 10 meters of the router, away from sources such as microwaves and baby monitors. It also compares separate 2.4/5 GHz network names where available. Our recommendation is to record whether a closer position changes the behavior.
Update a speaker through the Alexa app
Open Devices, choose the Echo, then Device Settings > Change or remove a Wi-Fi network. Choose a saved network or Join another Wi-Fi Network and follow the prompts. Use this route after a password or router change.
Use on-device settings for an Echo with a screen
For Alexa+, open Menu > Settings; for original Alexa, swipe down and open Settings. Select Device Options > Network, ensure Wi-Fi is on and choose the network. Amazon notes menu differences for some Echo Hub/Show models; follow the matching current screen.
Keep repeated dropouts in the same network investigation
Amazon's Wi-Fi article covers intermittent connectivity too and puts reset after earlier comparisons. Our recommendation is to record the device model, whether other devices work and which position/network changes helped before support or model-specific reset.
Frequently asked questions
Should the Echo speaker and Echo Show use the same menu?
No. Amazon directs screen devices to their own Settings > Device Options > Network route; a speaker uses the Alexa app.
Does this also cover Echo repeatedly disconnecting?
Yes. Amazon's Wi-Fi article explicitly covers intermittent connectivity. Compare the network and Echo conditions rather than publishing a separate set of the same fixes.
