The short version
- 01Confirm the Switch displays a picture while undocked on direct AC power.
- 02Unplug the AC adapter at both ends for 30 seconds before reconnecting.
- 03Connect the dock directly to the TV and select the matching HDMI input.
- 04Compare the dock LED's solid, off or repeated-blinking state with the screen result.
- 05Update dock firmware only on the supported HEG-007 LAN dock.
- 06Test a known-working dock or adapter and give Nintendo the comparison results.

Check handheld mode, then the dock light
First establish whether the Switch works outside the dock. A working handheld with no TV picture needs dock, power and HDMI checks. A console with no handheld picture needs power troubleshooting first. The dock's green light indicates TV output, so read its behaviour alongside the screens.
Applies to: Original Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED with HAC-007 or HEG-007 docks. Switch Lite has no TV mode. Switch 2 uses different dock hardware and is outside this guide.
What happens when you dock the console?
Note the handheld screen and the dock LED before swapping accessories. Keep the same console, TV and cable while changing one part at a time.
The handheld screen is also blank

Update the dock1. Prove the console works undocked
Disconnect the dock and unplug the AC adapter at both ends for 30 seconds. Connect an undamaged Nintendo HAC-002 adapter directly to the console and a wall outlet, then press Power. If there is no handheld picture, resolve console power before investigating HDMI.
2. Reconnect a minimal setup
With the console undocked, connect the adapter to the dock and wall, then HDMI directly between dock and TV. Select the matching TV input and dock the awake console. Remove receivers or video adapters from this test.
3. Distinguish a normal flash from repeated blinking
One brief flash when power is first connected is normal. Continuous blinking with the console docked needs troubleshooting. Restart the console through Power Options, then Restart; a quick press of Power only puts the console to sleep. Repeat the direct connection test after restarting.
4. Follow the solid-green branch
For a solid green LED with no picture, compare another HDMI port, cable or TV. For no output light after reconnection, compare a known-working Nintendo adapter and dock if available. These substitutions help separate the power supply, dock and display path without guessing which accessory to buy.
5. Update the LAN dock when applicable
Only the HEG-007 dock with a LAN port supports the original Switch dock firmware update. Update the console, then open System Settings, System, Update Dock and Begin Update. The original HAC-007 dock does not acquire this capability by being connected to an OLED console.
6. Report which swap changed the result
If repeated blinking disappears with a second dock, ask Nintendo about servicing the original dock. If the problem follows the console or a comparison dock is unavailable, Nintendo may need the console, dock and adapter for inspection. Record each test so support can reproduce the fault.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use this dock with Switch Lite or Switch 2?
No. Switch Lite cannot output to a TV, and the original Switch dock is incompatible with Switch 2.
Does a green light guarantee a working TV picture?
No. The dock can indicate TV output while the HDMI path or selected TV input still prevents a picture.
