Bluetooth headphones keep disconnecting: power or interference?

A connection that repeatedly drops needs different checks from first-time pairing. Windows documents power saving and driver checks; Apple documents interference from nearby wireless and USB devices.

The short version

  1. 01Compare whether the dropouts occur only on battery power or near particular devices.
  2. 02Move the headphones closer to the computer and separate nearby USB 3 hubs or devices.
  3. 03On Windows 11, run the Bluetooth troubleshooter through Get Help.
  4. 04Test with Windows Energy Saver off and review the Bluetooth adapter's available power-management setting.
  5. 05Restart Bluetooth Support Service through services.msc if the Windows connection keeps dropping.
  6. 06Update the Bluetooth driver and record whether the same dropout pattern remains.

Likely causes

  • Windows power-saving settings or an outdated Bluetooth driver interrupt the connection.
  • Distance, obstructions or nearby wireless and USB devices cause interference.

Record the pattern before re-pairing again

Our comparison is battery versus plugged-in use, then close-range use away from nearby equipment. Record which condition changes the dropout. Microsoft names power saving, drivers and temporary glitches; Apple names interference. A comparison narrows the investigation without proving a specific component failed.

Reduce the nearby interference

Bring connected Bluetooth devices closer. Apple recommends moving USB 3 or Thunderbolt 3 equipment away from wireless devices and avoiding obstructions, especially metal. Also keep the test away from sources such as microwaves and cordless phones.

Windows: check power saving and the adapter

Run the Windows 11 Bluetooth troubleshooter in Get Help. Microsoft's dropout article also tests Energy Saver off and, where the adapter exposes Power Management, disables its permission to turn off for power saving. Its follow-up steps restart Bluetooth Support Service in services.msc and update the Bluetooth driver in Device Manager.

Sources and review notes

Checked on . Based on Microsoft's repeated-disconnection article and Apple's wireless-interference guidance. Pattern comparisons are editorial. Windows adapter controls vary; use Power Management only where that tab is available. Glitchary is independent of Microsoft and Apple.
