Canon error 1403 on TS3700: reseat the FINE cartridge

Canon's TS3700 manual identifies a FINE cartridge error. Reinstall the cartridge, replace it if the code remains, then request repair if replacement does not help.

The short version

  1. 01Confirm the support code and model; use the TS3700 procedure only for the matching printer.
  2. 02Turn the TS3700 on, retract the output tray, open the cover and wait for the holder to stop.
  3. 03Release and reinstall the FINE cartridge without touching its contacts or nozzles.
  4. 04Seat the cartridge fully, click the lock lever into place and close the cover.
  5. 05Replace the cartridge with a new compatible FINE cartridge if 1403 remains.
  6. 06Request Canon repair if reinstalling and replacing the cartridge do not clear the error.

Raw message

Support code: 1403

Likely causes

  • A FINE cartridge error on the documented TS3700 series.
  • A potentially damaged cartridge when reinstalling it does not resolve the code.

Check the model before handling a cartridge

The TS3700 manual calls 1403 a FINE cartridge error. Canon first asks you to remove and reinstall it. If that fails, the cartridge may be damaged and should be replaced; continued failure goes to Canon service.

This procedure is scoped to TS3700-series printers. Our recommendation for another model is to open its own Canon manual and look up 1403 before moving parts or buying a cartridge.

Reseat the TS3700 cartridge using the manual

With the printer on, retract the output tray and extension, then open the cover. Wait for the holder to stop at its replacement position. Lower the cartridge lock lever, remove the cartridge and reinstall it promptly. Do not force the holder or touch cartridge contacts or nozzles.

Insert it fully and gently, then raise the lock lever until it clicks. The color cartridge belongs on the left and black on the right. Close the cover and check the displayed code. The illustrated replacement manual below shows the positions.

Replace a remaining faulty cartridge, then request repair

If 1403 remains, Canon directs you to a new FINE cartridge. Remove its protective tape before fitting it, without touching contacts or nozzles. Canon also asks for print-head alignment after replacement.

If reinstalling and replacement do not help, contact a Canon service center for repair. Our recommendation is to provide the printer model, code and steps already tried.
