Raw message
Error code: 10004
Likely causes
- The macOS Zoom app cannot complete its automatic update.
- An organization manages the Zoom installation and needs to perform the update.
- On affected Ventura installations, Installer permissions need review.
Start with the update and who manages it
Zoom's 10004 article describes failed macOS automatic updates and identifies affected Ventura-era systems. It does not provide a universal meaning for every platform. Our recommendation is to record the OS, app version and action that triggered the code before applying the Mac repair.
For an organization-deployed installation, Zoom directs users to IT. On a Mac you manage, proceed with its uninstall, restart and reinstall sequence.
Use the official uninstaller and installer
In the Mac app, use zoom.us > Uninstall Zoom, confirm, restart the Mac and download the current app from Zoom's Download Center. If normal uninstall fails, Finder > Applications > Zoom > Show Package Contents > Contents > Frameworks contains ZoomUninstaller.
Our recommendation is to repeat the original update or launch test afterward and keep the result. If 10004 appears outside the documented Mac update situation, send the exact context to Zoom support.
Ventura: a remaining installer failure has its own branch
Zoom's Ventura installation article checks Installer under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access, and Downloads Folder under Files and Folders > Installer. It then asks for a restart and another installation attempt.
If Installer is missing, that article identifies /System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app for adding it manually. Use this branch for the affected installation scenario and the official installer; ask IT to handle permission changes on a managed Mac.
