Raw message
Your account is on hold because of a problem with your last payment.
Likely causes
- Insufficient available funds, including the effect of pending authorizations.
- An expired or invalid payment method, a declined charge or mismatched billing information.
- A card or account that does not support the required recurring or e-commerce transaction.
Check the payment details in your account
Netflix defines E101 as failure to process the last payment. Its billing guidance asks users to check expiration, security code and postal-code details. Open the payment-management page from your Netflix account; the E101 article's Update control edits an existing method, while Change payment method adds another.
Our recommendation is to use Netflix's own account page when making corrections. Its Payment History page shows past charges and subscription billing information, which helps you identify the payment to discuss with the bank.
Ask the bank why the charge failed
Netflix asks whether the bank sees the attempted charge, why it was declined and whether enough funds remain available. Pending authorizations can reduce that balance. Also check whether a replacement card has been issued.
Cards must support recurring e-commerce charges; international transactions may also need to be enabled. Use Netflix's payment-method guide for your country when choosing an alternative. After investigating the decline with the bank, Netflix says you can retry the payment on Netflix.com.
Refresh after a successful payment-method update
If the same hold message remains after successfully updating the payment method, Netflix instructs you to use Back or Refresh on the device. Netflix also retries failed payments periodically during the billing cycle. If you still cannot pay after speaking with the bank, its next option is another supported payment method.
